• I am in word 2003 and 2007 and am using the fill effects feature. This basically blends two colors together for the background. It shows on the screen and in print preview that it is the whole page that has the two blended colors but when you print it is actually multiple little squares rather than one big square that is the size of the whole page.

Normally, the background of a Word document in Office 2011 for Mac is white, but you can change the background color — and even apply document theme colors to it.
